Graphic unit of map sign

Nižňanský, B.: Graphic unit of map sign. Kartografické listy, 2004, 12, 2 figs., 16 refs.

Abstract: Graphic unit (graphics by Bertin, 1981) as base substantial object of map sign is analyzed in this article. Graphic unit decomposition to the graphic elements apprehended as an area of dots is used. Graphic element and graphic unit are described as Worhoys’s object by its attributes (graphic variables, objective and subjective conditions of perception, geometrical abstraction), structure (topological and substantial), behaviour (relation and operation) and representation (substantial, logical, object oriented class). The article continues as a next part of theoretical analysis: Map sign definition and its sense in map language theory (Nižnanský 2002).

Keywords: graphic variables, graphic element, topological relation, morphographical operation, object, structure, attribute, behaviour, representation
