Datum transformation by multiple regression equation

Abstract: For datum transformation of local geodetic datum to EUEF89 we can used three transformation formulas (Helmerrt´s Formula, Standard Molodensky Formula and Multiple Regression Equations). Geodetic datum transformation by Multiple Regression Equations was initiated to obtain better fits over continental size land areas than could be achieved using the Standard Molodensky or Helmert´s formulas. The Multiple Regression Equations have been used to derive polynomial equations for transformation of two local geodetic datum´s (S-JTSK and S-42/83) are used on the area of Slovakia. The application of Multiple Regression Equations for S-JTSK gives more than four times smaller RMS and for 5-42/83 six times smaller RMS than Helmert´s formulas.
