Prof. RNDr. Jozef Krcho, DrSc. studied geography, specialisation cartography, at the Geologico - geographical faculty at the Charles University in Prag in 1953 - 1958. He also took, within his specialisation, selected lectures and examinations at the Czech Technical University in Prague. He was a student of prof. Kuchař and prof. Šalamon. He graduated in 1958.
In 1958 - 1962 he was employed at the Cartographic and Reproduction Institute in Modra - Harmónia as a responsible editor of maps and map atlases. During this time he developed several introductory and technical projects for the domestic maps series and also for the maps series of foreign countries. He worked also on topographic maps of General staff of Czechoslovak People‘s Army (ČSLA).
In 1962 he got an assistant possition at the Comenius University in Bratislava, Faculty of Natural Sciences, at the Department of Physical Geography. Later he was an associated professor and finaly he became a professor.
From 1991 till 1997 he was a dean of Faculty of Natural Sciences for two academic terms (periods). As a dean of this faculty he established in 1992 a Department of Cartography, Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing. He established also the Environmental Section at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, all-faculty computational centre and constructed an electronic network of the faculty. When his term as a dean came to an end, he took the position of a chairman at the Department of Cartography, Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing, in which he functioned till 2001. Prof. Krcho works at the Faculty of Natural Sciences to this day.
As a dean of the faculty, he involved the Faculty of Natural Sciences into dealing and solving problems connected with construction of Gabčíkovo-Nagymaros Hydroelectric Project . He established the group „Underground Water“ with prof. RNDr. Igor MUCHA, DrSc. as a head. He assumed a guaranty for monitoring of Žitný ostrov (Island) and he collaborated with doc. Ing. J. Binder, the director of Vodohospodárska výstavba, and with Ing. D. Kocinger, the plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic for construction and operation of Gabčíkovo - Nagymaros hydropower scheme.
