Cartographic modeling of the carbon balance according to land cover changes in Slovakia in the years 2000 and 2018
Mičietová E., Rášová, A.: Cartographic modeling of the carbon balance according to land cover changes in Slovakia in the years 2000 and 2018. Kartografické listy, 2023, 31 (1).
Abstract: The work deals with land cover changes in Slovakia and the impact of these changes on the balance of absorbed and released carbon according to the methodology of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for level 1. The evaluation results are presented in the form of cartographic models of spatial structures of land cover changes and spatial structures of absorbed and released carbon in the country as an impact of changes. The outputs of the work are a contribution to the assessment of the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced by the country for complex spatial modelling of the risk of climate change in the environment. Current knowledge about the issue at home and abroad is presented, with an emphasis on the IPCC meth-odology. The input for the assessment of land cover changes were the data of the third hierarchical level of Corine Land Cover in accordance with the IPCC methodology and other environmental factors – soils, climate and ecological zones. On the territory of Slovakia, land cover changes were assessed according to the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) categories in 2000 and 2018. The choice of time interval best described the recommended 20-year interval by the IPCC methodology for assessing the balance of land changes in connection with greenhouse gas emissions for the level 1. The original output of the work is: Table Area of individual categories of land cover and changes between categories in the years 2000 and 2018 in Slovakia, Map of spatial structures of changes in land cover in the selected area and the territory of Slovakia for the period 2000 and 2018, Table Changes in stocks of absorbed carbon in tons according to all categories of AFOLU, Map of spatial structures of stocks of absorbed or released carbon in tons according to changes in all categories of land cover according to AFOLU in the selected territory and the territory of Slovakia for the period 2000 and 2018.
