Position accuracy of objects in the maps of 1st and 2nd military mapping

Pešťák, J., Zimová, R.: Position accuracy of objects in the maps of 1st and 2nd military mapping. Kartografické listy, 2005, 13, 5 figs., 4 tabs., 5 refs.

Abstract: The maps of historical military mappings done on the territory of former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in the 18th and 19th centuries represent unique map series containing valuable information which may be used in many specialisations. The paper deals with an analysis of positional accuracy of selected objects in the maps of the 1st and 2nd military mapping made for two testing areas located in the south of Bohemia. The coordinates of selected points identified in georeferenced raster files of historical map sheets were compared with the coordinates obtained from the digital terrain model DMÚ25, from coloured orthophoto and from direct GPS measurements in the field. The results of the analysis are presented in the form of average deviations in position of the objects within the compared data sets together with the comparison of results from two testing areas.
