Installation and raster data representation in the avalanche geographic information system

Žiak, M., Szalmová, L., Čermák, P.: Installation and raster data representation in the avalanche geographic information system. Kartografické listy, 2010, 18, 1 fig., 12 refs.

Abstract: Informatization of society is important in every area of life, including high mountain areas. Many of the major current trends show the need for the high-quality data. It can provide for precise data collection and system in evidence of data storage. Analyses need quality of input data, so it is necessary to be selective among the available information. Data need centrally managed system, because avalanche research has many factors that enter into the analysis. Data in geodatabase format can be storage in table, vector or raster format. In this article we are fo-cus on raster representation. Raster data constitute parameters of georelief. Georelief is contact area between the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and pedosphere. On the formation of a multi-force, which itself is influenced by many processes in the country. Digital terrain model (DTM) is its description. For avalanche research we also need DMR derivates – slope angle, slope direction, horizontal and vertical curvature of georelief. We can simulate sunlight, which significantly affects the overall energy balance of snow cover. We have available two ways to write raster data – Raster Dataset and Raster Catalog. Choosing the right format is to consider ways to bring both a positive and negative aspects. We can also save raster images in their original format.
