Abstract: The article deals with evaluation of biomass production potential in three selected areas located in different natural conditions of Slovakia. Biomass potential is changing in dependence on land utilisation. Changes of land cover categories (arable land, permanent grasslands, forest, building areas) were deduced from historical map as well as from present remote sensing observations. Data showed development of changes in land cover categories during the period of 1782 – 2006.
