Development of military cartography in territory of Slovakia

Abstract: Contemporary area of the Slovak Republic was in historical development, besides short periods of independence, always part of other states. It was historically important area, so it was frequent object of military cartography of these states, the Habsburg Monarchy, Austria-Hungary and later the Czechoslovak Republic. Until 1993, own institutions of military cartography in this area were formed and individually provided all kinds of topographic and cartographic works. Maps of this area were more or less regularly created. They were primarily intended for military purpose. However, they provide sufficient sum of reliable information even for scholar geographical and historical research, which are not included in any other written or graphical documents.
