An iterative method for dasymetric mapping of population density based on European land monitoring services

Rosina, K., Hurbánek, P.: An iterative method for dasymetric mapping of population density based on European land monitoring services. Kartografické listy, 2012, 20 (2).

Abstract: European land monitoring services provide users with valuable spatial datasets at no cost. CORINE Land Cover (CLC) and Urban Atlas are among the best known ones. A more recent effort has been dedicated to the production of high resolution layers for five main land cover classes. One of these datasets is so-called soil sealing layer (SSL). It is a raster with 100 m cells containing values ranging from 0 to 100 percent of sealed (impervious) surface. SSL in combination with CLC can be used for dasymetric mapping of socio-economic variables. The paper presents a description of an iterative method for dasymetric mapping (spatial disaggrega-tion) of population density in Slovakia and Austria in 2000 and 2006.
