Development of cartographic symbol sets of national civil map series

Andělová, P.: Development of cartographic symbol sets of national civil map series. Kartografické listy, 2013, 21 (1).

Abstract: In the last few years, we often encounter the problem of uniformity of format of geodetic and cartographic data and outputs and their sharing options, not only in the Czech Republic, but in connection with European and global cooperation. To obtain a uniform meaning of cartographic products is the most important uniformity of symbols structure. We can achieve their unification e.g. by the publication of obligatory symbol sets for individual maps and scale. Obligatory symbol sets are published for national map series. Over the years these sets are adjusted and changing and it causes disunity of maps from different periods. This article deals with symbol sets and individual symbols for national map series in the Czech Republic, it deals with their development and changes. Especially it deals with symbol sets for base maps of the Czech Republic. The comparison can help determine the degree of uniformity of symbols structure on maps from different periods. Concurrently it can contribute to the creation of new symbol set. Can be selected the most important and the most suitable symbols.
