Interactive mapping client of the basic reference dataset for geographical information systems using spatial data derived from digital terrain model

Petříček, G., Schmidt, T., Mičietová, E.: Interactive mapping client of the basic reference dataset for geographical information systems using spatial data derived from digital terrain model. Kartografické listy, 2014, 22 (1).

Abstract: The main goal of this article is to put into practice the nowadays trends of digital cartography and show how to expand, share and gain informations of geographical data through interactive mapping client. Interactive mapping client represents specialized web map application which is available through internet on the particular url address (specifically our web map application is available at www.geonika.sk/klient). This web map application serves for displaying, sharing and analysing geographical data. Used data model consists of thirteen feature classes (map layers) which could be divided into two reference datasets. First dataset consits of feature classes generally used in the basic reference dataset for geographic information system called “ZBGIS” and the second one consists of specialised data derived from the used digital elevation model of the study area. The results of this article is to describe the advantages of using web map services for exchanging geographical informations, doing analysis and making the right, precise and quick decisions. Another result is to explain the functionality, options and possible expansions of the built web map application which is based on the sophisticated nowadays technologies.
