Theoretical process in cartography

Berľant, A. M.: Theoretical process in cartography. Kartografické listy, 1995, 3, 11 refs.

Abstract: It is proposed to reduce discussion on the nature of the development of theoretical cartography to two problems: 1) convergence or divergence of theoretical conceptions in cartography and 2) to the general and the particular in theoretical cartographic research. Discussion of “flow diagram” proposed by A. M. Berlyant and tree diagram” proposed by J. Pravda points at the following: The first diagram reflects general development of cartographic theories, though it is constructed on the basis of small (but sufficient, even surplus) number of points representing theoretical cartographic literary works. The second diagram reflect prevailingly the development of particular theories in cartography, while the number of sources can be completed.

Keywords: development of theoretical cartography, convergence and divergence, general and particular in theoretical cartographic conceptions
