Abstract: Appropriate cartographic interpretation and visualization of spatial flows are among the key components of the research addressing spatial processes. Dynamically developing geoinformation technologies and tools have created suitable conditions for the emergence of innovative ways and methods of cartographic representation of these processes. This paper focuses on the visualization of spatial processes using the online map application Flowmap.blue. Its aim is to present the particular functions and settings of the application, various possibilities of visualization of spatial data using Flowmap.blue and also to present the basic opportunities to employ it in research as well as in practice. We use the example of internal migration in Slovakia to illustrate these functions and possibilities. Flowmap.blue is a freely available interactive web application which, in addition to static cartographic interpretation, also enables dynamic simulation of origin – destination (O-D) flows in different time periods and according to various specified parameters. This map application enables effective and interactive visualisation even of the smallest O-D flows that could remain hidden in the static map form. It is easy use and technological solutions make the application suitable in scientific research and also commercial sphere and educational process.
