Definition of location of the cartographic pole using vector multiplication of two vectors

Vacula, M.: Definition of location of the cartographic pole using vector multiplication of two vectors. Kartografické listy, 1998, 6, 3 figs., 7 refs.

Abstract: One of the main objectives of mathematic cartography is the selection of a most suitable projection for a given region or area. One of the required criteria for selecting the projection is the profile of the area. Profile of the area directly influences selection of the type projection, it’s projection must be frequently in the plane other than normal, and that is directly determined by the position of the cartographic pole. This article offers a possibility to select the cartographic pole with the help of tools of vectorial algebra as an alternative along with known procedure based on tools of spheric trigonometry.
