Abstract: The distortion of the map is understood mostiy as the deformation of geometric elements which happens during map projection. In the paper in the context of the term distortion the geometric changes which happen at rectangular projection on the topographic project plane are also included. This circumstance was taken into account by the author when creating the definition and the classification of distortions.
