Abstract: The A. Koláčný’s communication scheme of cartographic information brought about the revival of the theoretical thinking in cartography of l960s. Cartography was not seen as mere art of map drawing, skill or technical discipline any more. Koláčný’s scheme had many varied aspects, which were used by some cartographers for enlightening of the way of creation and use of map but it also included the cartology model (Ratajski), the principle of cognitive conception in cartography (Salishchev), and some additional theoretical aspects. Koláčny’s scheme today possesses an important educative aspect and this is the reason why it is included in many text books of cartography.
