Abstract: We can differentiate three main approaches to providing information from national information system: open, commercial and mixed model. Models differ by way of providing information and information services to commercial organizations and public. Each of them supports providing information free of charge to institutions of public administration. The analysis of current regulations implies that Slovakia moved from commercial to mixed model. Information should be provided free of charge. Information provider may require users to repay the costs of reproduction and distribution. Entrepreneurs of national information system are forced to publish information on internet. Exploitation of information should be supported by use of free software and open standards.
