Abstract: On thematic maps created on computers mistakes often appear. Mistakes are usually made by specialists - informatists who miss basis of thematic cartography. On of the most often mistakes arise when creating scales of cartograms and cartodiagrams. Cartogram is a map with partial territorial units, to which statistical data (relative values) mostly of geographical character are illustrated by area way. Cartodiagram is a map with partial territorial units, in which the statistic data (absolute values) mostly of the geographic character are demonstrated by the diagrams. This procedure should be kept: 1. Numerate appearance of phenomenon in regular intervals, 2. Finding of the distribution, 3. Eventual testing, 4. Creation of scale according to the character of frequency division, 5. Choice of suitable colours, screens, 6. Arranging of resulting cartograms or cartodiagram.
