Abstract: The article concentrates on the spatial information infrastructure characteristics and on the process of building these infrastructures especially in the U.S.A. On the background of the possible demands and conditions of existence of cartographic and geoinformation enterprises in the 10 years and more perspective, the author thinks about the most probable scientific agenda of geoinfoamatics and cartography. He analyzes the situation and possible starting points for the beginning of the conceptual creation of NSDI in the Czech Republic.
