Abstract: The article is dedicated to the state map series ATscale of 1:5000, to its origin and development in the period in excess of fifty year history. Nowadays it comes to the application of the modern technologies in the computer cartography and in the production of the map series. It is very urgent to pay attention not only to the contents but also to the technical and qualitative parameters of the map series.
