Abstract: The map represents an abstract model of reality. At the same time is it a source of new information. The quality of their ability of reading the map and their general understanding of its contents by the recipients therefore represents a specific problem. This problem is the subject of this article. The article deals with the ability of the recipient to use a map. In the experiment we sampled two groups of respondents from different areas of study. The analysis considered two points of view: geographical and map language.
