Abstract: The article summarizes the experience gained from tuition of cartography-geography, specialisation GIS at the University of Matej Bel in Banská Bystrica since 1994. It points out the role of cartography in tuition of GIS. The importance of inter-disciplinary co-operation and that of specialised centres with the university depar-tments is also emphasized. The topical curriculae and changes influencing the dyna-mics of their development is analyzed.
