Abstract: The map composition is one of important characteristics of the map. The map user is in contact with map composition by the map reading in the form of spatial distribution and organization. The old maps have their map composition, which reflected the time period of their creation and have often artistic character. The goal of this article is to describe three old maps of area of Senec from viewpoint of the map composition and compositional elements like a title, scale, legend, etc. The analyzed maps were from 18th century (Libai map – 1769) and two maps from 19th century (Kiss map – 1860 and Zahajkiewicz map – 1894). It was created legend for each map. All names were translated to the Slovak language on maps also.
