Abstract: Map view services and Web mapping applications are the main tools that cover the increasing demand of geographical data. One of the most important aspects of a positive perception of the web application or service from the user point of view is speed. Therefore, we focused on ZBGIS® map client and view services performance tests and their comparison with other similar portals. We chose these portals for comparison: Geoportal ČÚZK (geoportal.cuzk.cz) portal with a similar position in the neighbouring Czech Republic; award-winning Swiss Federal Geoportal (geo.admin.ch) and portal for Comenius University in Bratislava Science Park – Activity 2.5 (uvp.geonika.sk), which represents other comprehensive solution emerging in Slovakia; it is an example of how positive effect has a compliance with the rules for the web applications performance. Several other parameters may decide on the applicability (especially for map services), these are also evaluated. Unlike map services performance testing, presented performance testing of web mapping applications is unique. Testing and evaluating the performance of web mapping applications was carried out by comparing compliance with accepted recommendations for the performance of Web applications. Recommendations were designed by the impact of quantitative indicators, which directly or indirectly affect the performance of web applications. Performance of map services were evaluated in accordance with the prescribed procedure in the part Quality of Services of Technical Guidance for the im-plementation of INSPIRE View Services.
