Abstract: Similar tendencies can be found in the map and geoinformation system definitions as far as the latest information technologies are concerned. On the other hand, there are several cognitive differences between the map, cartographic visualization and GIS output presentation. The paper deals with them. Qualified usage of geoinformation in the expanding community of GIS users calls for the geoinformative education starting at primary schools.
