Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

The editorial board of Cartographic Letters follows the best practices on ethical matters in accordance with the rules developed and expressed by the COPE Code of Conduct and Elsevier´s Publishing Ethics Resource Kit.

 

Authors´ duties and ethical responsibilities

• Submitting the manuscript, the author guarantees that the manuscript, or substantial parts of it, has not been published or are not under consideration by any other journal, proceedings or a book in any language.
• Authors submit a manuscript that contain their original research work. The author will not publish redundant manuscripts or manuscripts containing the same research in more than one journal, proceedings or a book.
• Any kind of unethical behaviour, such as plagiarism, multiple, redundant or concurrent publication is not tolerated.
• Author will acknowledge all sources of important information used in the paper (such as publications or data).
• Author guarantees originality of figures and tables included in the manuscript if it is not referenced to its source.
• Authors are required to ensure that no parts of the manuscript violate existing copyrights of third parties.
• The exclusive copyright is transferred to the publishers with the acceptance and publication of a manuscript.
• Manuscripts must follow the technical guidelines of the journal specified in Instructions for authors.
• The authors must provide response to each of the reviewer’s comments and questions in the form of an accompanying cover letter addressed to the editorial staff along with a modified manuscript. Should the authors disagree with some comments, a clear justification has to be provided to the particular comment in the letter.
• Before proceeding the manuscript for publication, the editor allow the authors to do the final check of the manuscript.

 

Manuscript review process and reviewers´ ethic rules

• The editorial board makes sure that each manuscript is initially evaluated for originality, thematic suitability for the journal and formatting issues according to technical guidelines. After this initial screening, at least two reviewers will be appointed to make a double-blind peer review.
• Editorial board guarantees that reviewers of manuscripts are respected experts in the field to which the manuscript addresses.
• Reviewer should follow the template provided.
• Each reviewer will make a recommendation to accept, reject, or modify the manuscript. The reviewing period is up to 60 days.
• Reviewer should acknowledge the editorial board about any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published work of which he/she have knowledge.
• Reviewer must not review any manuscript in which he/she has conflicts of interest based on collaborative, competitive, or any other relations.
• In the case of contradictory reviews, the editorial office reserves the right to get the manuscript assessed by a third reviewer.
• The manuscripts for the Information section are not peer-reviewed.

 

Publication decision and revision process

• Based on the review report of the editorial board, the editor-in-chief can accept, reject, or request modifications to the manuscript.
• The revised manuscript should follow recommendations made by the handling editor and reviewers.
• A consistent justification for not making the required adjustments will be sent by the authors in the cover letter to the editor along with the manuscript.
• If requested by reviewer, revised manuscript will be subject to re-review by given reviewer.
• The decision on final publication is on the editorial board and the author will be notified by e-mail.

 

Disclosure, Conflicts of Interest and Confidentiality

• The editors of the journal and reviewers will not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without written consent of the author. The editors and reviewers must ensure that information regarding manuscripts submitted by the authors is kept confidential.
