Abstract: Presented paper is focused on methods for the creating maps for the Atlas of International Relations which were generated through XML (eXtensible Markup Language). First section of this article deals with maps of the atlas, used methods of cartographical interpretation (cartograms, cartodiagrams, colour scales etc.) and characteristics of chosen map projections (Times projection, stereographic projection). Second part discusses technologies, format, speci-fications and software resources used for map production. The most important part of this paper contains analyses of proposed method and above all proposals for an improvement and optimisation of part of the map generation system.
