Abstract: The contribution discusses the quantitative description of terrain roughness by using methods of the fractal geometry. The vertical and horizontal components of the area are considered in its fractal dimension. To gain the fractal dimension, the box-counting method has been applied. Taking the fractal dimension into account can be useful in the basic terrain typology.
